How Is CBD Absorbed Through The Skin?

Topical and Transdermal CBD is able to be absorbed through the skin.

When CBD is applied directly to the skin it works by activating a set of cannabinoids known as the CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors play a large role in the body's inflammation responses and connected to our peripheral nervous system.

Topical

CBD topicals are classified as CBD infused products (e.g lotions, creams, roll-on's, and balms) that are applied directly onto the skin. Hence, CBD gets absorbed into the skin but does not penetrate past the dermis. When applied liberally CBD, will absorb through the skin from the pores. Additionally, when using a CBD topical, the bioavailability (i.e. the subcategory of absorption and is the fraction of an administered drug that reaches the systemic circulation) plays a very important role in the rate of absorption.

Transdermal

Transdermal products deliver CBD to penetrate through the dermis into the bloodstream by passing the digestive system. Once CBD reaches the bloodstream, it affects the body, leading to the benefits CBD gives. Multiple different studies on transdermal use of CBD have all came to the same conclusion: transdermal administration of CBD has long-lasting therapeutic effects without psychoactive side-effects.
