Due to its wide variety of medicinal benefits CBD is used to treat a number of common medical conditions. Specifically; as a topical agent, CBD oil can be directly applied to certain areas of the body as an effective means of relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and soothing inflammatory skin conditions. Nonetheless, CBD cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, and they enhance circulation and cellular regeneration.
Salves
We've heard the term many times but what is a 'salve' exactly? Overall a salve something that you apply to your skin to heal and moisturize the skin. Topical salves can be in the form of creams, balms, lotions or ointment. To make salves, oil and wax; and in this case tincture, is needed to form a thick and stable material. More so than not, aromatherapeutic essential oils are added; such as lavender, to further in-hanse the benefits. Lavender alone helps greatly with relaxation and insomnia. To further the benefits of lavender it is also great for healing burns, pesky bug bites, eczema, psoriasis, muscle pain, and is even anti-fungal.
Scientific Studies
While research on CBD is still in its emergence, the conducted studies have shown promising results. A study conducted in 2015 found that; transdermal CBD gel significantly reduced joint swelling, limb posture, spontaneous pain, immune cell infiltration and thickening of the synovial membrane in a dose-dependent manner. Concluding that topical CBD application has therapeutic potential for relief of arthritis pain-related behaviors and inflammation without evident side-effects.
A more recent study done at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia Medical School studied; what they titled, A therapeutic effect of cbd-enriched ointment in inflammatory skin diseases and cutaneous scars. The study was investigated by three medical students to which they concluded that topical administration of CBD ointment, is a safe, effective, non-invasive and greatly helps the quality of life in patients with some skin disorders, especially on inflammatory background.
